What is Open in Plumas National Forest For Memorial Day Weekend
Lake Davis -Lake Davis is located 7 miles north of Portola, California. Â This lake was created in 1967 for recreational opportunities. The Lake Davis Recreation Area offers a wide variety of summer outdoor experiences including camping, picnicking, Â fishing, hunting, boating, mountain biking, swimming, and wildlife viewing. Waterskiing and jet skis are not permitted. Frequent strong winds can cause the lake to become very hazardous for small craft.
Frenchmans Lake –Â Located in the headwaters of the Feather River, Frenchman Lake is only 38 miles northwest of Reno, NV, and 26 miles northwest of Portola, CA. Â A shoreline 21 miles long ends at the 129-foot tall earthen dam, which rises to an elevation of 5,607 feet. During summer, this recreation area offers a variety of outdoor experiences, including camping, hiking, biking, picnicking, fishing, swimming, boating, water-skiing, jet-skiing, and hunting.
There are five campgrounds, one picnic area, several fishing accesses and two docks. The dock at the Frenchman Launch Facility has been pulled onto shore for repairs to the anchoring system. Lunker Launch Facility is open with the dock available.
Bucks Lake -Bucks Lake is located 17 miles southwest of Quincy. The area offers year-round recreation opportunities, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Bucks Lake is not open for camping yet. However, the road is open up to the dam giving you access to the lake.
Antelope Lake – Antelope Lake is one of the more remote, quiet lakes on the forest. At 5000 feet in elevation, Antelope Lake is located in the northeastern part of the Mt. Hough Ranger District. It is a small remote lake
with 15 miles of shoreline. Surrounding the lake are mountains blanketed with pine and fir trees. Protected coves around the lake attract several species of migratory birds. The campgrounds are usually open by Memorial Day weekend and closed by the middle of October.
Camp spots may be hard to find at Lake Almanor but the lake is full and ready for a weekend of family fun as well.
Exploring around Lake Almanor, Â Butt Valley Reservoir and Eagle Lakes out of Susanville are all great options for the weekend.
